The fruit comes from our Burning Creek vineyard. The vineyard is located adjacent to our Lafond vineyard in the heart of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, an appellation known internationally for exceptional Pinot Noir.
The Sta. Rita Hills valley runs east to west leading to the Pacific Ocean. In early afternoon, cool breezes blow up the valley followed by evening fog which lingers until mid-morning.
This creates the southernmost Region 1 climate zone in the northern hemisphere, which has one of the longest growing seasons in the world, conditions that are ideal for producing quality, fruit-driven Pinot Noir.
Exhibiting flavors and aromas of black cherry, strawberry, violets and black tea, this wine is the perfect red for light lunches on the patio, lazy afternoons picnicking in the shade or an evening of hors d’oeuvres and aperitiffs at the bistro.
Winemaker's Comments: The grapes for this wine are sourced from our youngest vines. The eight year old vines consist of seven select Pinot Noir clones grown in three different soil types at multiple sites within the vineyard. Young vines typically produce grapes that are very fruit forward but without the concentration that comes with older, mature vines. Using neutral oak barrels allows the forward fruit to shine.
Tasting Notes: The 2017 Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir shines a pure ruby with aromas of cherry cola, and cherry liqueur, followed by mild oak. Flavors of fresh plum, raspberry and dried herbs are carried by a well-developed tannic structure. This wine pairs great with duck confit, grilled salmon, and sauteéd mushrooms.
