One of our highest awarded wines of 2019!

Bruce McGuire continues his tradition of fantastic Rieslings coming from the Lafond Vineyard. The 2016 Dry Riesling is composed from 100% Lafond Vineyard fruit. Rieslings grown in cool climates showcase more bright apple flavors than their warm climate counterparts. The Lafond Vineyard benefits from the cool ocean fog and the evening breeze.

Peer through the fog of history and remember Riesling was really one of the first grapes that showed the promise of the Santa Ynez Valley for fine wine growing back in the middle 1970's. Pierre Lafond planted the first block of Riesling in our Lafond Vineyard in 1972 and winemaker Bruce McGuire has crafted several styles of this wine since his arrival in 1981.

Winemaker Comments: This is the last crop from our old Block of Riesling. Planted in 1972, this 46 year old Block was declining from drought and nematodes. Aged 'Sur Lie' with 'Batonage' for mid palate texture. The concentrated fruit is carried with bright acidity. It will develop with age for years.

Tasting Notes: The 2016 Dry Riesling is pale gold with orange reflections and has aromas of lemon zest, honeysuckle and coastal breeze. Flavors of bright lemon, early peach, and wet stone complete the palate. Bright and dry, with slight effervescence, this wine pairs well with oysters, lightly-dressed salads, and fresh vegetarian dishes.
