The 2016 Syrah is composed of grapes from four different vineyards. Leaning heavily on the Lafond Vineyard and their cool climate grapes, the 2016 Syrah captures the bright peppery notes often associated with Syrah. The addition of grapes from the warmer Joughin Vineyard add body and ripe fruit flavors that blend beautifully to create a wine of wonderful harmony.


This bottling of Syrah highlights both the cool climate forward flavors of white pepper and lavender, and the jammier full fruit character experienced in the back of the mouth courtesy of the warmer eastern Santa Ynez Valley. Most of the wine was aged in small 60-gallon French and Hungarian barrels as Syrah benefits from ample barrel time.


Winemaker Comments: The 2016 Santa Ynez Valley Syrah produced small canopies and clusters due to the ongoing drought. This results in a nice, concentrated wine, just not very much of it.


Tasting Notes: The 2016 Syrah is inky purple with aromas of blackberry, dried herbs, and white pepper. A blend of both cool climate and warmer climate grapes -- this wine has a deep richness that is nicely cut by its acidity. Full-bodied, with rich flavors of baked blueberries and ripe plum. Drink with a hard aged gouda, braised beef, or any BBQ. This wine loves some char.
