Bruce McGuire uses grapes from the Stolpman Vineyard in Ballard Canyon to create our Sangiovese. Above ground, the warm weather helps fully ripen the grapes and concentrate the flavor while within the earth, ancient limestone adds the necessary acidity.

Winemaker Comments: Sangiovese is the main grape in the Chianti wine region in Tuscany and Stolpman Vineyard continues to be an excellent source of this grape. Texturally, the grape produces fragrant, supple wines. Stolpman is ripe, concentrated, and still retains length and suppleness. 15 months in barrel rounds out and melds the components of this wine together.

Tasting Notes: The 2016 Sangiovese is red brick in color. This Italian varietal enjoys the warmer weather provided by Ballard Canyon, so we exclusively use grapes from the Stolpman Vineyard. Bright aromas of raspberry jelly, fresh plum, and thyme jump out of the glass. Flavors of Bing cherry, dried fig, and blistered tomato shine on the tongue. Medium-bodied with bright acidity, this wine pairs well with roasted quail or chicken, or pasta served with red sauce.
