Petit Verdot is a small dark berry that when ripened properly, will produce an intensely full bodied red with bold spice notes and high tannin. It has become quite attractive to New World growers that can allow for longer hang time.
 
This classic Bordeaux varietal has found success in the Mediterranean climate of the Curtis vineyard. Our Petit Verdot wonderfully showcases how loam rich soil, plenty of sunlight and an offshore breeze can create dark and dense fruit of distinction. This vintage is noted for its small crop size, yet high-quality fruit.
 
Winemaker's Comments: Curtis Vineyard is located five miles north of Los Olivos at the beginning of Foxen Canyon. This is a warm part of the Santa Ynez Valley which produces excellent red wine. Drought conditions intensified the dark, saturated, fruit-forward wine.
 
Tasting Notes: The 2016 Petit Verdot is dark garnet in color with medium purple undertones. A pleasant bouquet of ripe plum, lilac, and potting soil greet the nose. Fully ripe flavors of raspberry, blueberry, and hazelnut flow smoothly across the tongue. High in tannins, this full-bodied red pairs well with smoked meats, sausages, and spicy Italian dishes.
